Executive editor

Denise Balkissoon is based in her hometown of Toronto. Prior to becoming executive editor, Denise helped launch The Narwhal's Ontario bureau, steering the team to Canada's highest journalism honour, the Michener Award. She has also been executive editor at Chatelaine and a columnist, reporter, editor and podcast host and producer at The Globe and Mail. Her work has been recognized by the National Magazine Awards, the Digital Publishing Awards, the National Newspaper Awards, the Canadian Journalism Foundation and the Association of Ontario Midwives. In 2011, she was a founding member of the groundbreaking digital magazine the Ethnic Aisle, and the Urban Alliance on Race Relations has recognized her longstanding commitment to integrating racial justice into Canadian journalism.
