Anne Caroline Desplanques is the senior national reporter for The Narwhal, based on the Quebec side of the National Capital Region. She covers the environment, natural resources and the impacts of federal policy.
Before joining The Narwhal, she spent nearly two decades reporting on everything from Arctic sovereignty and toxic waste to water contamination and resource development.
She began her career in radio at Radio-Canada, CBC’s French-language network, before moving to print at Le Journal de Montréal, where she worked as an environment and science reporter, a political reporter on Parliament Hill and an investigative journalist. While living in Argentina, she also contributed to Québec Science and Canada’s National Observer.
Her work has earned a Canadian Association of Journalists President’s Award, a Gémeaux Award nomination for her documentary La Guerre de l’Arctique (The Arctic War) and two Digital Publishing Award nominations. She also received a grant from the Fonds québécois en journalisme international to cover defence and security in Sweden and the Arctic.
Outside of work, Anne Caroline is an avid fiction reader and loves spending time in the hills of Gatineau Park with her family. A former kayak champion who grew up on a small Caribbean island, she’s never far from the water. Today, home is on the banks of the Kichi Sibi (Ottawa River).
