Rajpreet Sahota is a reporting fellow at The Narwhal based in Toronto, the traditional territory of many nations, including the Mississaugas of the Credit, Anishnabeg, Chippewa, Haudenosaunee and Wendat peoples. She covers Queen’s Park and the ways policy affects racialized communities across Ontario.
Before joining The Narwhal, she reported for the CBC, filing stories for Toronto, Hamilton, Sudbury, Thunder Bay and Windsor, all in Ontario. Her reporting has focused on breaking news, courts, public policy and community issues. She is particularly interested in how government decisions affect everyday people. Her work includes coverage of the proposed deep geological repository for nuclear waste near Ignace, Ont., Indigenous concerns over rising electricity costs in northern communities and the federal government’s Bill C-61, the First Nations Clean Water Act.
Rajpreet has also worked as a reporter and video journalist for Bell Media in Fort St. John, B.C., where she covered major stories, including wildfire emergencies. She holds a master’s degree in journalism from Carleton University and an honours degree in journalism from the University of Guelph-Humber. Fluent in English and Punjabi, Rajpreet is passionate about accountability and amplifying the voices of communities historically underrepresented in public discourse.
