Stefan Labbé is a senior reporter in The Narwhal’s B.C. bureau, where he covers the collision of power, industry and the natural world. Labbé's reporting has been published across a number of outlets, including The Guardian, PBS Newshour, The Tyee, the CBC and The Globe and Mail.
He previously worked as a staff reporter at Business in Vancouver covering how money and influence impact the environment. In 2026, his reporting into B.C.'s oil and gas royalty system prompted the province to acknowledge it had made a multi-billion-dollar budget error—one that slashed the amount of money the public is expected capture from industry in the coming years. Labbé also spent nearly four years as the climate and environment solutions reporter with Glacier Media’s Central Team.
His reporting with partners at the Washington-based International Consortium for Investigative Journalists uncovered the overseas business ties of Canada's largest forestry company. The series of stories prompted a federal investigation.
